My favorite book of 2009!!!

In September I launched my holiday special for discounted pricing and free shipping…it was a BIG hit! Special thanks to all of my customers that helped make this program and year a successful one for LWL!!

I finished out the year with some unique orders but I wanted to share my favorite with you. The request came from an awesome young lady from Michigan that found me through a Google search. Her sis and hubby are building their own home out in the country and she wanted a personalized wooden scrapbook to give as a gift to capture those special moments. This book is special for a few reasons: first, it was my first order from someone who is not a part of my immediate circle! My family and friends have been awesome this year and carried me through and I am forever grateful. However there’s something super special about an order from someone who doesn’t know you. Secondly, it was my first and only stained book this year. It was perfect for this gift because it fit the mature, rustic, country feel the customer was going for.

After the book shipped, I was my usual nervous self as I awaited her response – I knew that I loved it but it’s all about customer perception! I received an email from the customer that read: “I got the book and I absolutely LOVE it! I can’t wait to give it to my sister…you do such great work and are so timely with all of your responses!” After reading that I did my happy dance…so pleased she loved it!!! The Baby Fair Raffle Winner!

Back in April I exhibited at The Baby Fair expo in Nashville, TN. At the expo I raffled off a free book to an expectant mother and a lucky young lady by the name of Alexandria won the raffle! It was extra special for her because she said she had never won anything before!

At the time of the expo she didn't know the gender of the baby so we agreed to keep in touch over the upcoming months and she promised to share the gender and bedroom theme with me. Finally she announced she was having a boy and his name would be Landon...how CUTE!!! His room was a jungle theme so I used those details as inspiration for the scrapbook. You all know that I always get anxious to hear the response after a book ships so I was pleased to see an email from Alexandria that read:

Tonight I am working on my first anniversary scrapbook for a friend from high school that has been following my work. He and his wife are celebrating four years; their wedding colors were robin's egg blue and white. I'm really excited about the sharp, clean look this book has...he's going to surprise her on their anniversary next week Tuesday! Such a thoughtful husband! Scrapbook Interview!!!

Lumbered With Love opened an Etsy shop on the popular website a few months back. The Etsy Community is AWESOME! Etsy gives loads of information on marketing tips and networking in addition to an avenue to sell handmade and/or vintage items.

I gave my Etsy shop a much needed makeover last month by adding a Banner and Avatar to my shop for a more polished look. I purchased the set from a company named BannerBanner who specializes in shop designs. I was quite pleased with BannerBanner's portfolio and timely responses - customer service is KEY! I would recommend their services to everyone! BannerBanner also has a Blog called Funny Sky Creations and features their new customers in interview form. The questions were simple yet informative for my potential and existing customer base. The article sheds light on my inspiration to make personalized wooden scrapbooks, my processes and my goals. Friendship and Scrapbooks!

On many of my Blog posts I give many thanks to my supporters and loved ones for being just that, loving and supportive. This entry is dedicated to my friend Jennifer (of Air Special Events and Weddings) who recently purchased two scrapbooks from me for her two nephews Cameron and Chase. Chase is a newborn whose nursery theme is full of cars and Cameron is a Spiderman fanatic! The books were a surprise to the new mommy and she was so grateful for Jenn’s thoughtfulness!

I was really pleased that Jennifer thought of Lumbered With Love when there are so many other things a new mommy could use like diapers, bottles, a VACATION!!! But that’s what friends are for!! During her free consultation she spelled out all of the details I needed to complete both Plus Package books and they were a hit. Thanks so much Jenn for being an awesome friend and for your continued support. LWL LOVES YOU!!!

I completed another book recently that also had a race car theme for my friend Suzie’s grandson, Brodie, who is due in November. This book was the first of its kind and she and the expecting mommy LOVED it!! This book was super fun to make – the cover is extremely colorful which I absolutely love.

Making scrapbooks has proven to be a very rewarding experience for me. I love to see the exciting expressions of my happy customers – it makes the early mornings and late nights all worth while!!!

Starting my new business this year has been an awesome adventure! Many thanks again to all of my supporters. 9 Steps to Beginner Scrapbooking!!!

Scrapbooking is a form of artistic expression, but sometimes we don’t know how to begin expressing!! For this entry, I thought it would be helpful to provide some tips on decorating your Lumbered With Love scrapbook pages. I found a great article on Everything-About-Scrapbooking.com that proves to be extremely helpful and fun. Have a look!

The article gives you 9 easy steps to follow that will have you well on your way to completing your LWL scrapbook pages! Here’s a sneak peak:

-Select a set of photos to work on.
-Decide on a central photo.
-Have an overall layout image in mind.
-Choose 2 or 3 colors of acid-free papers.
-Crop your photo if needed.
-Mat your photos.
-Write something, and bring meaning your pages.
-Add a few little extras.
-Format the layout.

Scrapbook Masterpiece!!

I have determined that the fourth scrapbook I had to complete before my trip is my MASTERPIECE!! I did this book for my awesome friend Vicki who traveled to Costa Rica with her lovely boyfriend last year. For his birthday, she wants to create a collage of their memorable excursion so as any great friend would, she came to Lumbered With Love for her scrapbook!!! In order to capture their experience as best as I could, I began Vicki's free consultation by asking the following questions: What activities did you do? What interesting things did you see? What stood out to you the most? She began to describe the beautiful blue water, waterfalls, the vibrant tropical leaves and bamboo they saw throughout the trip. I used that information and created the scrapbook you see below which I absolutely LOVE!!! This book was a challenge for me because a lot of my customers will list their colors of choice and give me free reign with the design. I knew how special this trip and gift was to Vicki so I worked extremely hard to capture all of the details. I sent her a picture of the finished product and this was her response:
